Abbot Point Coal Terminal 1

The Port of Abbot Point has a 30 year history, growing from a 6.5 million tons per annum (mpta) capacity coal port to what is currently a 50 mtpa Coal Export Facility. Abbot Point Coal Terminal remains Australia’s most northerly coal export port. It is also the closest Australian coal export port to the Asian markets.

Our involvement

Aquenta was engaged by GHD to prepare a high level cost estimate for the replacement cost of the existing assets at Abbot Point Coal Terminal T1 based on current day rates. This involved the collation, review and analysis of Aquenta’s in house data for similar projects recently completed along the Eastern Seaboard of Australia and the utilisation of external experts within the coal industry.

Cost estimating.

The outcome

Aquenta was able to successfully produce an AACE Class 5 Estimate to the Client on time and within budget. Success was based on Aquenta’s ability to readily obtain up-to-date market related prices due to relevant market experience and leveraging close relationships with external experts within the coal industry.
