Melbourne Metro

Melbourne Metro has the potential to be a critical city-shaping project that would overhaul Melbourne’s rail network, resulting in major improvements in capacity, reliability and travel times across the bulk of the metropolitan rail lines. The project would involve the construction of a nine kilometre rail tunnel through inner Melbourne linking the Sunbury and Pakenham/Cranbourne rail lines. The project scope also includes the future development of five new underground stations.

Our involvement

Aquenta was engaged to manage the overall cost estimate preparation through various stages of the project including submission to Infrastructure Australia. In addition, we prepared the construction methodology and program for the purposes of the estimate preparation and undertook the quantitative risk assessment based on the estimate and construction methodology.

The outcome

The work conducted by Aquenta produced high quality robust outputs that informed the business case and financial model, and allowed the state to make decisions on the viability of this important project. Our work enabled a targeted review and development of the scope for this project and assisted with investigations into possible funding sources for various aspects of the project.
