Olympic Dam Primary Water Supply System

The project included construction of a reverse osmosis desalination plant, a 326km below ground transfer pipeline, three major pump stations and associated water storage facilities to provide additional water supply to Olympic Dam and the Roxby Downs township.

Our involvement

Aquenta was engaged by BHP Billiton to provide Capital and Operational Cost Estimates for the Olympic Dam Project Primary Water Supply System as part of the Olympic Dam expansion feasibility study.

Capital and Operational Cost Estimate.

The outcome

Capital costs were estimated with regard to direct costs, contractors’ distributables and associated allowances.   Operating costs were calculated for the two components of the primary water supply system consisting of the SWRO plant and the transfer system.  A combination of capital and operational cost estimates enabled the development of a whole of life cost for the  water supply system.
