Wiggins Island Rail Project Stage 1 – Rocklands to Stanwell

The Wiggins Island Rail Project (WIRP) Stage One includes duplicating 18 km of track between Rocklands and Stanwell on the Blackwater System. Works between Rocklands and Stanwell include earthworks and drainage, track infrastructure, overhead electrical equipment, power systems, signals and telecommunications. Three rail bridges will also be constructed as part of the project at the Burnett Highway, Four Mile Creek and Neerkol Creek.

Our involvement

URS commissioned Aquenta to perform construction cost estimating services for the civil construction works only relating to the Blackwater Duplications project, together with associated Bills of Quantities in accordance with the QR National standard format. The various track sections were at different stages of design maturity and therefore required different levels of estimation as per the QR National Brief dated March 2011.

Independent Estimating Services.

The outcome

Three specific priced Bills of Quantities were produced and submitted to Aurizon via URS under cover of a Final Estimate Report. These Bills of Quantities were ultimately used by Aurizon to assist in the preparation of tender documentation to be submitted to multiple contractors and the pricing element to assist in the comparison of tender prices received.
